Nosara is undoubtedly one of the coolest beach towns in Costa Rica, and Silvestre Nosara is a game-changer in luxury hospitality for the destination. Nosara is on the map for most travelers, but accommodation options have been limited to basic hotel rooms or book-your-own home rentals via VRBO or AirBnB. Silvestre set out to change this by offering what they term “the luxury of a hotel, the freedom of a home.”
Silvestre offers nine spacious grand residences, perfect for families. It also has an exclusive rooftop pool, bar, and lounge, a studio where fitness, yoga, and meditation classes are hosted daily, a quiver of custom-made house surfboards and surf instructors on call, and a full-time concierge to ensure that guests make the most of their time in this coastal paradise.
A one-minute walk through the jungle from Silvestre brings you to Playa Guinoes, one of Central America’s most beautiful and surf-blessed beaches. This beach is a true paradise, with over 4 miles of soft golden sand backed by the Ostional Wildlife Refuge, no building is permitted 200 meters from high tide. This leaves the beach framed by dense jungle behind it, full of wildlife and one of the world’s most active sea turtle nesting sites. Life in Nosara revolves around the beach; it has some of the most consistent surf in the world and a variety of waves suitable for absolute beginners up to extreme surfers. Watching the sunset from the beach each evening is like religion for locals and visitors in Nosara.
Silvestre guests usually start their days slow, with an Acai bowl and a Cappuccino in the rooftop pool lounge, which is exclusive to guests. From there, they can see what wellness offerings are programmed in the private studio for the day or ask the concierge for suggestions and reservations at the class of their choosing from the plethora of world-class studios in the community. Perhaps a surf lesson or a walk on the beach before lunch, where they can go out to numerous barefoot cafes or return to their residence’s well-stocked kitchen for some downtime. When tired of the beach, the concierge can arrange guided waterfall hikes, zip lining, visits to wildlife rescue centers, ATV tours, horseback riding, tide pool explorations, or fishing boat charters, to name just a few of the nearby activities. Nosara is a bustling town full of fantastic boutiques for shopping, numerous art galleries and pop-up events, and a thriving community center and skatepark perfect for families. The gastronomic scene in Nosara is incredible, with restaurants offering every sort of food imaginable, served from food trucks on the street to elaborate hideaway mansions up in the hills.
Silvestre Nosara is a perfect place to come for a week to slow down and recharge on the good life. With frequent domestic flights to the Nosara airstrip from both Liberia and San Jose International Airports, it is really easy to get to and connect with other destinations in Costa Rica.

Closet Domestic Airport:
There is a small local airstrip called Nosara Beach (NOB) that receives direct daily flights from both San Jose International Airport - SJO (45 minute flight) and Liberia International Airport - LIR (30 minute flight). There are usually 2 daily flights from Liberia and up to 6 frequencies daily from San Jose. These scheduled flights are operated by Sansa and Costa Rica Green Airways, usually on 12 passenger Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft. There are also many different charter options for light aircraft and helicopters.
If International flight arrival/departure times do not sync up with the domestic flights into the Nosara airstrip, or people prefer to avoid light aircraft flights - it is a simple 2.5 hour drive to Nosara from the Liberia airport. Silvestre can arrange for private vehicle transfer services.
Due to the great domestic air connections from Nosara to both Liberia and San Jose, it is possible to combine beach time at Silvestre Nosara with basically any other destination or property in Costa Rica.
Having a vehicle is a nice perk while in Nosara to be able to explore other beaches up and down the coast, so renting a vehicle and driving to Nosara from Liberia is a good option. You can also arrange to hire quad-bikes while in Nosara. If driving from San Jose, a perfect place to stop for a few nights is in the cloud-forest of Monteverde, staying at Senda Monteverde.
Unique Arrival & Departure Options:
WHEN TO VISIT
Nosara is hot and tropical year round, but has quite defined wet and dry seasons which are different visitor experiences
Dry Season: December through Mid-May is the driest time of the year, with December and January being the top peak times with rates doubling for most everything. Note that this are of the coastline is tropical dry forest, so it can get very dry and dusty during this season due to most of the roads being dirt. Also, the many local waterfalls dry up in the middle of the season and wildife activity is dimished. But you can expect cloudless, hot sunny days during this time period and a lot of people visiting.
Green Season: Mid-May through November is the time of year with more tropical rain. It’s rare that it will rain for a full day, and more common that days begin sunny and cloudless, with clouds building throughout the day with a heavy tropical downpour in the evening or overnight. The many local waterfalls are wonderful to visit and hike to this time of year and there is more abundant wildlife activity. Prices are also much less than in the busy dry season. Note that roads can be muddy during this time of year since they are mostly dirt.
For Surfers: The surf in Nosara is epic year round, the 3 mile long Playa Guiones is a wave magnet and has hundreds of perfect beach break peaks going off up and down it’s length. The inside waves are also perfect for beginner surfers. This beach wants SW swell activity which is biggest and most consistent during the rainy season from June through November, which is also sweet since there are way less tourists in town these months and prices are lower. November through March still has consistent surf, but nowhere near the size and quality you find in the rainy season. And of course crowds (and costs) are double during this time period.
FOR FAMILIES
Nosara is a dream destination for families with kids of all ages and Silvestre was purposely built with families in mind. Waking up to howler monkeys in the trees, sipping on fresh fruit juices and a fluffy stack of waffles on the rooftop pool terrace. Surfing, boogie boarding and sand castles on the beach all day, watching the sunset with the community daily followed by cruising out to dinner on ATVs to family focused restaurants and more ice cream shops than you can shake a stick at makes for a pretty good day for kids. When they are tired of the beach, head out play among tropical waterfalls, go zip-lining, maybe charter a fishing boat?
The community of Nosara is super family friendly, since a lot of expat families have moved there over the years, they have built up options for themselves and visitors. They have an incredible local skate park that is full of kids all day long, there are cafes and bars with jungle mini-golf courses inside, there are art galleries that do nightly paint workshops for families, and almost any night of the week you will find open air movie nights at various restaurants where parents get a chance to socialize while the kids lay under tropical skies and watch movies. There are a ton of wood fired pizza joints and also ice cream and gelato stands everywhere.
RECOMMENDED LENGTH OF STAY
As they say in Nosara, usually it takes about 3 days to slow down and melt into the Nosara lifestyle, so we wouldn’t suggest anything less than three nights here - usually in the case of making time to explore other areas of Costa Rica in combination with Nosara.
Nosara is a destination itself, with most visitors coming here to spend the duration of their vacation/holiday for a week or more. (Some stay forever)
UNIQUE SELLING POINTS
Silvestre perfectly blends the luxury and convenience of staying in a hotel, but gives guests the freedom of feeling like they are staying in a home. There simply is no nicer, more spacious or more convenient place to base yourself in Nosara. Having a concierge to arrange everything for you while at the same time having the option to use a fully stocked kitchen in your residence when you wan to stay in is the perfect blend.
Most every hotel in Nosara has a restaurant/bar open to the public, the exclusivity of the rooftop pool and bar at Silvestre is a welcome respite when you want to get away from others and have a little down town to yourself.
Nosara is a true gem of a Costa Rican beach town; far away from the big-box-mega-brand resorts of the Papagayo Peninsula, completely lacks the hard partying backpacker vibe of Tamarindo or Jaco, and overall is very family friendly compared to similar towns such as Santa Teresa.
Nosara has some of the most consistent surf conditions in the world. The breaks here are suitable for both absolute beginners to hardcore surfers.
Nosara is a bustling township with a strong year-round expat community that has built the type of community resources they desired: skateparks, art schools, co-working spaces, family friendly establishments and nightly events. It doesn’t feel like you are just in a tourist town, full of nothing but tourists.
The shopping and art scene around Nosara is fantastic, there are pop up events happening all the time. The variety of restaurants and bars to choose from is excellent - and nobody will look sideways if you walk into any restaurant barefoot or decide to dress up for the evening - it’s a very unpretentious atmosphere.
The variety of outdoor adventures to choose from in the vicinity makes Nosara an ideal place for people that want the beach but also need other things to do.
Basically EVERYONE goes down to the beach to watch the sunset together, EVERY DAY - there is something special about that.
BEST COMBINED WITH
Due to the availability of domestic flights from the Nosara airport to both San Jose and Liberia in as little as 30 minutes, and ongoing connections from either of those hubs - it makes it possible to combine Nosara with pretty much any other destination in Costa Rica with ease.
If travelers are looking to combine time on “the beach” in Nosara with just one other destination in Costa Rica, for variety, we would suggest combining it with the amazing whitewater rafting adventure into Pacuare Lodge or a few days in the Monteverde Cloudforest.
