Since opening in late 2011, Casa Gangotena has consistently been ranked as Quito's top hotel and one of the finest in all of South America. The elegant property is located in a restored mansion dating from 1926, in the heart of Quito's UNESCO World Heritage colonial center.  From the hotel's meticulously preserved terrace, one has a commanding view of Plaza de San Francisco and is just a short walk from Quito's top architectural attractions such as the gilt Jesuit church of La Compañía de Jesús, the Museum of the City, the Plaza Santo Domingo, the Presidential Palace, cultural centers and the bustle of Quito's Old Town and historic quarters.

LOCATION: QUITO, Ecuador

Closest Airport:

Quito (UIO) receives domestic flights from throughout Ecuador and the Galapagos.  It is a minimum 45 minute drive from the Quito airport to Casa Gangotena but can take well over an hour during peak traffic times.

Casa Gangotena fits easily into the beginning, end or middle of any trip to Ecuador and the Galapagos.  Most visitors to Ecuador are on their way to the Galapagos, the majority to board cruise ships which have fixed departure dates.  Therefore, it is wise to plan at least one night in Quito prior to your Galapagos cruise to ensure that guests do not miss their Galapagos departure if international flight issues delay their arrival into Quito.

Unique Arrival & Departure Options:

WHEN TO VISIT

Blessed with an equatorial location, Quito experiences a temperate climate all year round that does not vary much in terms of temperature. The daily average is approximately 65 °F/18 °C year round with August and September being the warmest.  Nights tend to be crisp in the high 40's°F (9 °C) due to the altitude at 9,350 ft/ 2,850 m.

The two rainiest periods is Quito are over Jan-Feb and then again in Sep-Oct, with the rest of the year fairly dry.

FOR FAMILIES

Although very elegant and upscale, Casa Gangotena does not exude a stuffy atmosphere, where children are made to feel unwelcome and parents on edge. Casa Gangotena welcomes families with children and the staff will spoil them with surprises. Due to it's location right in the historic center of town, most touring can be done locally, on foot, in short periods of activity where the hotel is never far away.

RECOMMENDED LENGTH OF STAY

One night if you are just stopping over on your way to the Galapagos, but to really enjoy the historic city center of Quito, 2-3 nights in recommended.  There are multiple day trips to be done within the city and within a 2 hour radius of downtown such as the "Mitad del Mundo" or Center of the World monument.

UNIQUE SELLING POINTS

Traditionally, luxury hotels in Quito were only available in the Northern suburbs, which is a very "globalized" part of town full of fast food establishments and lacking in authenticity or charm - forcing visitors to make day trips into the historic city center by vehicle and return at night.  Casa Gangotena is located right in the middle of the historic city center on the lively Plaza San Francisco, only a few blocks away from the major attractions such as the Plaza Mayor, grand government institutions, museums, markets, colonial churches and Panecillo Hill.  It's location allows visitors to explore Quito on foot, at their own pace, with the ability to stop back into the hotel during the day to freshen up or resupply.

More than just a grand hotel with first rate service, Casa Gangotena is awash in history and gives visitors an insight to what life would have been like for the high society of Quito during the turn of the 20th century.  Each room has it's own unique history to tell and each served a different purpose when it was used as a family mansion.

Casa Gangotena provides a free docent led experience for guests each day that range from Rum and Chocolate tasting, to historical walks of the mansion and surrounding plazas.

BEST COMBINED WITH

Any reason that brings visitors to Ecuador - from the Galapagos to the Amazon to the Highlands - should include at least a full day exploring the historic city center of Quito is a great idea and there is no better base than Casa Gangotena.  It is a 3.5 hour drive to Mashpi Lodge in the Cloudforest or a 2 hour drive to Hacienda Zuleta from Casa Gangotena.
