Hidden among the lush and verdant scenery of Colombia’s coffee producing region, Hacienda Bambusa is a working plantation that offers guests an ideal place to relax and explore. The area is rich in breathtaking scenery and marvelous flora and fauna, and is inhabited by hard working, fun-loving, open, and friendly people. At Hacienda Bambusa the central courtyard is surrounded by eight rooms, each with a private balcony where guests can relax with a book or take a siesta in the woven hammocks while listening to birdsong. It is an ideal experience for families, couples, and nature lovers who want to enjoy the experience of a beautiful and peaceful natural environment. It also makes an ideal base from which to explore the Zona Cafetera (The Coffee Triangle) and surrounding coffee plantations, colorful colonial market towns and the gorgeous Valle de Cocora and Los Nevados National Park.

WHEN TO VISIT

The coffee region, as a whole, enjoys a very pleasant climate throughout the year. The hacienda is located in the southern part of the region; therefore, its climate is warmer and not so rainy. During the year, temperatures range between 20º C and 28º C (68º F - 82º F), with variations in the frequency and intensity of the rains.

FOR FAMILIES

Bambusa is very safe and fun for families with children of all ages. Triple occupancy rooms and connecting rooms are available. Children enjoy the freedom to roam the extensive farm, see exotic bird life and swim in the pool. Staff can cater to children’s food preferences and nearby excursions are great for families.

Discounts are available on all-inclusive rates for children between the ages of 2-12 and a private guide and vehicle will be assigned for individual family groups to ensure that excursions are catered to their needs.

RECOMMENDED LENGTH OF STAY

The minimum suggested is two nights. Three to four nights is ideal, allowing guests to explore much of the surrounding area on excursions while still providing for some down time at the property. From previous guest feedback and experience, doing a half day excursion combined with a half day free at the Hacienda is ideal—or a full day of touring followed by a full day free at the Hacienda. There are miles of trails to enjoy on the property, and Hacienda Bambusa has their own naturalist guide on site. The perfect climate, multitude of hummingbirds and other exotic birds flying around make hanging out at the swimming pool a real delight.

UNIQUE SELLING POINTS

A true working farm that specializes in the production of cacao (chocolate) which provides some variety to the local touring experience which so heavily focuses on coffee cultivation.

The small size of the property (eight rooms) provides a very intimate and “high touch” guest experience.

A decent amount of driving is involved touring the local area, so Bambusa is an ideal place from which to base in order to provide a tranquil yet interesting place to spend a half or full rest day during an itinerary.

Bambusa organizes some exclusive experiences for guests not provided by local tour operators such as hot air balloon trips, naturalist led tours of their farm, and cultural interaction opportunities they have created solely for their own guests.

Bambusa is one of the only Haciendas in the region that specializes in catering to an international clientele rather than the domestic market.

The full-day excursion into the Valle de Cocora, where guests can hike beneath towering wax palms, should not be missed.

BEST COMBINED WITH

Combining a two to four night stay at Hacienda Bambusa with time in both Bogota and Cartagena make an ideal first trip to Colombia. Bambusa provides a rural countryside experience which compliments and adds variety to the history and beaches of Cartagena and cosmopolitan Bogota. Combining the three destinations make for an ideal one-week trip.
